• History

  • The subdivision was originally plated in 1949 by Carter Groves when residential building supplies became more readily available after World War II.  His craftsmen (electricians, plumbers, etc.) built their own homes with red Oak hardwood floors and one-car garages in this neighborhood.  They planted new trees in their neighborhood which had only one Post Oak tree that soon died after the development began.   Today those trees form a wonderful shaded canopy for the residents.

At that time the neighborhood was located on the far west side of Houston. The next structure west was a Farmer’s Market located where the Galleria stands today.  Some property owners had moved from Montrose to their new homes in this development on the ’far west side’.  San Felipe was only a gravel road with open ditches where the neighbors picked dewberries. Most of these owners held onto their homes for decades.  Today, our small neighborhood exists in  the middle of Houston with 34 residents on 35 lots.

In 2019 Westgrove Court Community Association, Inc. (WCCA) became a mandatory Property Owner’s Association formed under Chapter 204 of the Texas Property Code to continue to improve our neighborhood and to represent all of the homeowners when dealing with the City of Houston and neighboring developments. The Mandatory Deed Restrictions were updated in 2019 to both modernize and protect the character of this small, but charming part of Houston.

Today’s Westgrove Court Community looks forward to a great future as part of the dynamic inner city of Houston.
